Keeping ourselves safe
For the next two weeks, we will be teaching the health unit of ‘Keeping ourselves safe’ alongside Constable Rob. This programme has been designed to give children the skills to cope in situations involving abuse. It has three main aims:
- To develop and strengthen children’s skills to keep themselves safe with other people.
- To support and encourage abused children to get help from caring adults.
- To make teachers and parents more aware of the need to keep children safe from abuse by adults or other children.
It is important that you participate as much as possible and talk to your child about what they have been learning. This will help reinforce the messages we are teaching at school and help your child to use their new skills with confidence.
If you could please talk with your children about where they live (address) and home contact number prior to our lessons with Constable Rob that would be much appreciated as we will be discussing where we live.
This term we are focusing on the elements of drama and our oral language will focus on memorising a short poem by heart. You can help your child by selecting a poem together (think about appropriate length, poem subject etc), getting them to practice memorising and saying the poem aloud with good volume, pace and expression.
We ask that this term parents avoid coming to watch their child do their oral language as we have found the children can become distracted and even though these performances are always on Thursday, there is no specific time set.
We have a big focus on the production this term and our inquiry focuses on ‘Showtime’. The school-wide production will be kept under wraps to build anticipation and we appreciate your support with this. We will keep you updated regarding parent help for costumes etc.

Mini Art Exhibition
We would LOVE to have any volunteers who can help us frame and name the art pieces that will be going up to the hall for the art exhibition. If you are able to help at any time, please come see one of us as we can show you what to do.
The art exhibition will be held in the hall during week 3, please visit the hall before or after school to have a look.
Does anyone have any finger or hand puppets at home that we could borrow for the term to have in our mini puppet theatre as part of our inquiry?
These will be kept is a safe place in the classroom.
