School Closure Learning Info 2020
Reading
You have been given some books for reading over the school closure. We have
included those that are appropriate for your child’s reading level.
Reading a story from previous days is a good way to practise fluency. Only read one new book a day.
First please
discuss the book by looking through it and talking about all of the
pictures. This is a time to look at the
vocabulary that they might not know.
Point these words out and work them out together. The objective is to make the reading experience
feel fun and successful for them. Refer to the reading goal card in their book bags to help with reading strategies e.g. Stretchy Snake.
Other fun
things that you can do are:
·
Practise the key ring words (spot the words in the readers)
·
Work out words that you see on other
things
·
Play word games such as I spy - use
sounds too
·
Use Reading Eggs
Please spend no more than half an hour
on this each day.
Writing
Make writing purposeful and fun. The children could write a recount, made up story, list, recipe, diary entry. Draw pictures and write a story each day. It doesn’t
need to be a lot… just one or two sentences. The alphabet card will be really
useful tool to help sound out words. Focus on children independently recording the sounds they hear in words, please don't make them spell words perfectly.
Another writing activity you could do is pick a sound or blend/diagraph of the day and make a brainstorm of words that start with that sound or blend/diagraph.
Handwriting Wizard is a good app to practise letter formation.

Mathematics
Please use Mathletics to practise maths concepts.
Keep counting things, do cooking together, notice shapes and numbers in
the environment. Practise number formation as children often record numbers backwards.
Please spend no more than half an hour on this each day.
